Airports

T&L delivers airport operations planning, design and optimisation solutions. Airport clients benefit from increased, consistent passenger and baggage flow, reduced congestion and delays, improved service levels and lower operating costs.

Growth in passenger volumes calls for imminent increases in processing capacity at many airports. There is therefore a need to make best use of existing facilities, while development is taking place. Airport technologies are making continuous progress and airport security regulations are becoming ever tighter. Such developments generate changes to airport processes and demand patterns and directly affect the passenger travel experience. Airline pressure to reduce costs at their operating airports requires airports to seek more efficient operating solutions. At the same time, customers maintain high service expectations: fast, efficient processes; limited waiting time; a variety of check-in options; a safe airport environment... amongst many others.

Applying our core service offering, we develop efficient facilities and operations for airport clients and help them to achieve their cost and customer service objectives. Below is an overview of how these core capabilities translate into solutions specific to the requirements of airport operators and airport service providers.

BAA: Gatwick Airport

Baggage Planning and Logistics Improvements
At a Gatwick Airport terminal, we identified the source of congestion in the baggage hall and recommended an action plan to increase capacity, particularly during peak periods.

A key part of the results and recommendations was demonstrating that clear benefits can be realised by acknowledging the interdependencies between check-in and baggage in operations planning. We showed that by employing an integrated planning philosophy the peak demand for make-up positions can be reduced and more make-up positions can be made accessible. Our consultancy team also illustrated the advantages of introducing Just-In-Time logistics practices for the movement of ULDs, providing adequate equipment storage areas and using the correct equipment.
