Operations Performance Improvement

T&L employs industrial engineering disciplines, operational research techniques and its broad industry experience to identify operating issues, understand requirements and improve operating performance in aviation and distribution environments. Typically, client benefits include throughput and productivity improvements, operating cost savings and the extended life of existing passenger, cargo and parcel facilities.

Understanding the root cause: Our work is underpinned by factual analysis of the root causes of issues and failures; this is achieved through detailed investigation of the client operation. We analyse passenger, baggage, cargo and parcel flows, workload patterns and capacities to identify production limitations, constraints and efficiency reserves, and quantify improvement opportunities.

Client-driven solutions: T&L recommendations and solutions are designed specifically for the client operation and, where requested, demonstrated and implemented with the participation of client teams. We take into consideration all operational influences including product types, service standards, and technological and regulatory developments.

Our solutions may incorporate improved production layouts, planning techniques, work systems, processes, signage and communications or management strategies.

Sustainable value: Ultimately we aim to create an efficient and controlled operation with an optimised flow rate that achieves the client service objectives. Planned and managed implementation plays an important role in embedding this long-term.
T&L has been helping clients to improve their operations perfomance for over ten years. However, our consultants’ industry experience reaches back over three decades.

Project Overview

bmi

Check-In Process Optimisation at Heathrow Airport
T&L introduced production-based, end-to-end check-in process that incorporated a revised layout and hosting roles at bmi’s Heathrow Airport operation. This enabled the carrier to reduce queue durations, eliminate the need to expedite for closing flights and reduce the cost of check-in.

Dublin Airport

Passenger Security Screening Process Optimisation
We proposed and demonstrated strategies to optimise the existing passenger security screening process and achieve a significant increase in passenger throughput, without compromising security. Dublin Airport has fully implemented T&L's reccommendations.
Additionally, prior to the implementation of enhanced EU regulations, T&L assessed the effects of the new measures by simulating and measuring the requirements. We recommended processes and layouts to accommodate the LAGs requirements; these were used by Dublin Airport to minimise the customer service operational impact of introducing the new measures.

British Airways World Cargo

Facility Capacity Improvements
T&L completed productivity and capacity optimisation programs for British Airways World Cargo in London and the USA, increasing capacity in constrained facilities by more than 25% and reducing industrial staffing costs by 50% through improvements in productivity and service performance.
We also contributed to improving airline punctuality through the redesign and optimisation of air freight processes.
